SURROUNDINGS

The Museum Apartments provides its guests an opportunity to enjoy a relaxing stay in the centre of Figueres, the city best known for Salvador Dalí and surrealist art. Only a few steps away, a visit can be made to the Dalí Theatre-Museum and the Dalí Jewels - outstanding cornerstones for the artist's work.

Furthermore, to learn more about Dalí a visit is recommended to the Portlligat Museum-House, where the artist spent much of his career. With its labyrinthine structure and the presence of the most unexpected features, the house imprints it Dalinian spirit. The Gala Dalí Castle, where Gala was buried, is located in Púbol. Of particular note are the elephant sculptures that decorate the garden and the works and furniture that fill the castle.

Figueres is a city full of little nooks to enjoy, such as its Rambla dating from 1828, its pedestrian centre, the 19th-century Theatre, the Garden dating from 1914 and the old Hotel París, which houses the Toy Museum of Catalonia with an exhibition of more than 4,000 pieces, making it one the most important museums in the world in this area. It is an exceptional collection well worth visiting. A few kilometres away is Sant Ferran Castle, a large-scale military fortification built in the 18th century, which covers 32 hectares and has a perimeter measuring 3,120 metres.

Along the coast of Alt Empordà is a range of both sandy and rocky beaches and coves. There are dozens of possibilities to enjoy the Mediterranean and its vastness while losing yourself in a nameless and charming seaside village where time seems to stop. A visit to the impressive underground gallery and water cisterns, which can be reached by boat.

AND CULTURE

A few kilometres away is Cadaqués, a medieval fishing village that is perfect for a stroll. Its unique old town is paved with stones taken from the nearby sea and worn down by the waves. Its beach is undoubtedly one of the most photographed beaches on the Catalan coast. Not to be missed is a visit to the Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery in Port de la Selva, a emblem of native Catalan Romanesque, where there are the magnificent views of the area.

Further south is the Greco-Roman city of Empúries, where dramatised guided tours of the archaeological site are conducted.
